Alienware M15 R6 Latest Dell Gaming Laptop review:
    Better than I expected
This is my first gaming laptop I have ever owned. I have a nice water cooled rig that I use at home but recently have been on the road more than usual so I decided to get a gaming rig that doesn’t weigh 80 pounds. I does run hot after a few hours of gaming but I do use a keyboard and mouse so Im not touching the laptop as I use it. I also have a Alienware headset that sounds amazingly clear and drowns out the fan noise during game play. I took a little while to get all the updates and going but that only took about 3 hours of my day, which to me is just part of getting something new. I really love new tech and fiddling around with it before I started gaming I got it set up just the way I like it.

    Almost…
A very capable machine that runs all the games I want it to and exceeds my expectations in that area. The issue I’ve had is that upon arrival my keyboard doesn’t work. This is a brand new machine with the row from caps lock to the enter key completely dead. Technician replaced palm rest but didn’t fix the issue and actually revealed other issues. So far they are waiting on parts to correct the issues, but it seems the QA missed some key components, like the keyboard on a laptop. On a special order machine, after waiting weeks, it doesn’t fully function. I love the capability, but am disappointed that my brand new rig has to be repaired. So far Dell seems like they’re working on resolving the issue. Love their machines, but I’ve had issues with Dell laptops at work as well. Hope this isn’t indicative of a trend.

    laptop issues from day one
keyboard backlight was not working. Was happy with dell service and the technician. This problem was resolved at soonest possibility. Tech support was also good in this area. However there is a code on the power button that keeps happening even though the computer seems to be operating fine. 2 red and 8 blue. I will be returning this laptop and looking at other options.

I love the look and feel and the fact that this beast actually delivers over 3 times the frame rate of the previous one is mind-boggling to me
Excellent build quality. Everything works out of the box. I have no complaints – except the HDMI output… Why HDMI? DisplayPort… Nvidia G-Sync… FreeSync? But other than that this is the best Alienware since M11!!!!

    Surprisingly slow.
Just setting up the laptop and some of the things it does are surprisingly slow – like resizing a jpg in Photoshop. Probably too early to judge yet, but I’ll be keeping an eye on this machine’s performance.

    Alienware Command Centre is garbage
Everything with this laptop is amazing except the stupid Alienware Command Centre. Incredibly buggy. Inconsistent RGB lighting controls. Had the laptop for 4 days and already had to completely uninstall (which is tedious) and reinstall Alienware CC. I just wish this program was better which in turn would have made my first few days amazing. Other than that. Love the computer.

Great performance but some unexpected build quality issues
The system runs great and the QHD screen is pretty impressive, but the built quality is somewhat lacking. Ordered this system but the screen frame was not glued correctly. Got it replaced but even in the replacement same issue was prevalent although it, wasn’t as prominent. Otherwise a great system all in all.

    Great laptop but runs hot
The RTX 3080 really puts off the heat when running games. Really good frame rates though. Build quality is excellent. Its a bit of a lug at 5 lbs so not really one to throw in the backpack and carry around.

    A BEAST!!!
overall it is a type of laptop that everyone wants, Its screen refresh rate and resolution are the best. The keyboard and backlighiting are great. Even though there are some gliches while some keys like f6 but it’s okey.I think the touch pad could be better a bit big and the sound while clicking the buttons on the touch pad is bit akward. Finally a great laptop can be used in a great way small backlogs can be covered.

    So far so good.
Really fast, nice build quality. Two *small* issues out of the box. 1) The My Alienware program kept crashing while trying to fill out the warranty card. I repaired the installation of that and then it worked fine. 2) The 3070 wouldn’t pass the user benchmark test (failed on gpu) and I had to tweak the windows settings for it to pass (not going to fault Dell for this). Other than that, so far so good and I like it.

Happy enough does what I need it to, does get a bit noisy at full performance temps appear to be with in acceptable limits so no complaint there, would have liked a couple more USB 3 ports XD other than that cant say any thing bad about it.

    One of the best laptop
In 2014, I have own an Alienware Laptop 15 r2, and now I still buy the m15 r6. With Alienware laptop, the durable is the top when compare with other gaming/designing laptops. However, you should buy the extra cooling pad (more fans, more wind, more good) for your laptop, the strong of Alienware is fast with more power consumes and that bring the long long weakness from the past called too much over heat. If you stay in Western countries, the weather temperature is usually cold, that will suitable than in Asian with normal temperature usually higher than 20C degree. I am from Vietnam and the weather so hot (28 to 35 C degree).

camera is not working and battery time is barely 2hrs.
I just got my Alienware M15 R6 on December 6th. My camera is blurry. when I try to run system diagnostics and troubleshoot, all I get is everything is alright but my camera doesn’t seem to work. I didn’t expect this from a brand new laptop. I need this issue resolved asap.

  16. Review By Tom said:

Alienware M15 R6 is an excellent gaming laptop. The reviewers often site how hot these laptops run. Mine doesn’t. I adjusted the TCC offset in bios to 90C. Alienware defaults to 100. It does thermal throttle in gaming, but without frame rate drops. But I imagine its not being utilized fully if you aren’t hitting the ceiling with it. In benchmarks, it thermal throttles without a huge drop in CPU clockspeed. Had a few laptops that would throttle way too aggressively and Clock speeds would nosedive. The fans kick in only when the CPU/GPU is being taxed. They are no louder than any other gaming laptop. The pitch is nice, more of a woosh than a whine. The build quality is the best out of all the laptops I’ve owned. The chassis is all metal but has a nice soft feel to it somehow. I assume some its nice powder coating. The trackpad is moderately sized. Had smaller, there are bigger, works for navigating the internet. Trackpads are useless during gaming as far I’m concerned. The keyboard on mine is the membrane keyboard. I mean the mechanical sounds cool if you want to spend the extra on it, but completely unnecessary as far as I’m concerned. Best typing experience on a laptop I’ve had. One thing I wish more manufacturers including Dell did was provide better Linux support, as I prefer that OS over windows. If you’re buying this laptop, you’re obviously doing it for gaming and windows would serve you best anyway…for now.

Great Performance, Build Quality Leaves a Lot to be Desired
The performance of the M15 R6 is exactly as expected, quick processing, great graphics, but comes with a few drawbacks. Don’t expect to use this computer on your lap even for light tasks as the bottom chassis has a dreadful flex that will cause the trackpad to click in. even on a desk, if there is enough pressure on the left or right of the keyboard, the trackpad will click in, causing the mouse to behave strangely. The fans are very loud as well, however that’s expected given the i7 processor and an RTX 3070 under the hood in a relatively compact package. This laptop as-designed is a bit of a non-recommend, however if Dell/Alienware can resolve the deck flex issue it could be a great option in the high-end 15″ market. At over $2100 however, a complete package for parts, performance, portability and resilience should be the baseline expectation.

    M15 R6 review
So far the performance has been great and I love everything about this laptop except for the battery life. Seems like it doesn’t matter much what I’m doing the battery life just is not what I hoped for. Thankfully this laptop stays at home for the most part. I just hope the battery doesn’t degrade quickly with it always draining so fast and using it while its charging.

Alienware M15 R6 has Performance issues
The Alienware M15 R6 laptop has good design but no so good in terms of performance. Its not worth the money I paid for it. The Laptop do not switch on sometimes and I have to plug it in charge for the laptop to switch on again(Despite the battery being already 100% charged). I also noticed after going to sleep mode and when I press any key to put it back on again; the screen appear black without loading back to my desktop. I had to restart by holding the shutdown button. Its quite annoying.

Beast of a machine that you have to protect.
I have had the Alienware M15 R6 for 4 days now and I’ve been having the time of my life. The inconveniences that you might face can be fixed very easily in terms of software and Dell’s support team in India have been very helpful. I have no regrets and I am sure that, if taken care of, this baby will be with me for years to come. Also, the M15 R6 is visually the most beautiful laptop I have ever seen or held in my hands.

Alienware M15 R6 the part that folds the player sounds like a cheap machine
The machine is very good to use. The design is very nice, but on the back of the device I prefer 2 USB rather than the current one. And I don’t understand why even though the machine looks very solid, when opening the screen and closing the screen, the sound sounds very weak as if it is not solidly reinforced.
P.S : I use Vietnamese via google translate, so it might be more difficult to understand what I mean

Dell Alienware m15 r6 customer review:
    It’s less than a week old now…
And I love it. The mechanical keys respond with a satisfying pop-punch back into place, the fans kick-in with their whirring mellow whisper that isn’t bad at all, and as a bonus the onboard mic doesn’t seem to pick-up the fans or the game sounds, according to my pals in Discord. The “My Alienware” software is pretty clunky and pointless as a stand alone piece, and the Alienware Command Center isn’t terribly intuitive, but as far as the hardware goes, so far, I love this little machine.

Thermals playing heavy games never exceeded 85 degrees Celsius. Membrane keyboard feels great and overall really nice laptop and worth the money going from the Ryzen to intel. Would recommend to anyone wanting to game just watch out for the sweat marks, they are quite common. Build quality is nothing like ive ever experienced with a super solid feel. 10/10

It also plays most games I know in the highest FPS settings with frame rates greater than 200 fps (e.g., CSGO, Left for Dead 2). I got around 110 fps for Warzone. Build quality is also good. Worth every penny.

Dell Alienware M15 R6 have issues in Display drivers and restart/switching on troubles.
The trouble seems to have subsided for now, but random applications have been causing the screen to flicker continuously or when you try to start the laptop the lights turn on but the computer doesn’t and eventually pressing it again actually starts it. Unsure if its specific to my model but noticed this happen a few times, also 16gb ram will never suffice, wish there were better ways to tweak options while making the purchase rather than having to upgrade later.

    Alienware M15 R6 Overheating problems
Running my laptops thermal profile on full speed does not cool the processor enough to run efficiently so I tried to use a cooling pad underneath my device and I saw little to no results. My computer runs great otherwise but I am at a loss on how to solve my cooling problem.

Dell Should provide NVMe mounting bracket by default and heatsinks for Alienware M15 R6.
I planned to add a 1TB NVMe 2280 but surprised there was no mounting bracket to screw it on. Then hot having a heat sink coming by default caused me to order one separately. As to the memory, I wanted to upgrade to 64GB but this only works with 2x 32GB SO-DIMM at 3466MHz which are not available, not matter where I looked. First boot took more than an hour due to the upgrade the machine is doing, leaving me on that spinning screen without expectation as to when it would finish.

Alienware m15 R6 gaming laptop review:
    Fantastic performance and build quality
I am very happy with this laptop. The RTX 3060 manages a lot of titles at high settings very well (Dota 2, Dirt 2, Apex Legends, Civ 6 etc). I even run it to an external 1440p 144hz monitor and still get fantastic frames on high settings. The best feature of this laptop is the screen, its smooth and bright great to play on and watch videos. The computer is super fast and it was easy to add in an extra M.2 SSD (Dell sent me a bracket which wasn’t included for free). The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because the screen does creak a little bit when closing the lid (however still feels solid). The rest of the laptop feels very solid in terms of build quality. Fan noise can be loud so headphones are recommended but that’s to be expected.

Dell Alienware M15 R6 is Powerful machine but with some flaws
Beautiful machine, best display I’ve seen in a laptop and best mechanical keyboard. But had a terrible first time experience with issues on windows, lots of bugs so I had to reinstall windows and start from zero. Another issue was the usb-c that doesn’t connect straight to dgpu and uses igpu only. And it needs to be connected to a dock before connecting to a monitor. laptop is heavy for my taste and gest quite loud under load but it super powerful. I’m able to run cyberpunk on ultra, ray tracing ultra and DSLL performance on 60fps on qhd! amazing results

    Alienware M15 R6 Gamer’s Review :
It is As expected But Could be better.
For what I consider an entry level gaming laptop I do not see the build quality sustaining continual use of the keyboard in a gaming environment. If you are a gamer and bought this laptop for mobility then you will not be using peripherals (like monitor and external keyboard) to use this laptop. At best you will be using a mouse and headset. I do not see the keyboard built to withstand many days/weeks of playing games on it.

It s good but I makes mechanic sounds like something is breaking
If I press on all parts of the laptop I can hear sounds of cracks in it. I dont know if that s normal or not but I’m afraid that it can cause some damage in the future

    Alienware m15 r6 review:
    Laptop Arrived with Damaged Screen
Headline basically says it all. Screen came damaged with a thin yellow line running down. Does not make things unplayable but it is annoying. Normally I would call, complain, and hopefully get a replacement but I am leaving the country soon and do not have time to wait. I will just get a screen upgrade when I come back to the States. It is a shame.
